Design and Reverse Engineering

Design and reverse engineering services are used when parts need to be recreated, modified or newly manufactured.

When drawings are unavailable, PRD can measure the existing component, prepare drawings or models, then machine a replacement or revised part. It’s the difference between waiting on a part and having one made to suit.

1. Assessment and Measuring

PRD inspects the component and confirms the failure, critical surfaces, and what needs to be replicated or improved. We take key measurements for fits, clearances, and mounting points using precision measuring tools.

2. Confirming Fits, Tolerances and Materials

Where required, we confirm key fits and tolerances so the replacement part performs correctly in service. We can also check hardness and thickness (where relevant) to help guide material selection and restoration methods.

3. Design and Drafting

Once measurements are confirmed, PRD prepares workshop-ready drawings or models. This can include dimensions, tolerances, threads, keyways, and any changes needed to improve performance or service life.

4. Manufacture and Finishing

PRD machines the part in-house to suit the drawing/model. Where required, finishing processes are applied (for example, build-up and final machining back to specification).

5. Fit-Up Support

If the job requires it, PRD can support fit-up and testing to confirm the part functions as intended before it returns to service.
